Step 7 in the prevention of infection from mosquitoes carrying the #ZikaVirus: Spray natural/chemical products as a broadcast application creating a large barrier against mosquitoes. There are great new natural products that can last for 2-6 weeks when applied properly and will offer a deterrent to mosquitoes.

Up to this point in our guide we have discussed how to prevent the breeding and infestation of mosquitoes and how to protect yourself. The next step is to create a barrier that will keep the home safe from mosquitoes. Additionally, are there safe and reliable products and when should you use a chemical defense?
Zinger Hardware is the leader in promoting safe, natural products to protect the family. Our recommendation is to spray with #Bonide Mosquito Beater or #Wondercide Eco Treat. There are two methods for broadcast spraying. The first is to use a Ready To Spray that simply attaches to a hose and the built in siphon regulates the disbursement of oils. The second is a fogger unit that will create a vapor mist and broadcast spreads the oils. I recommend the use of a mask when using a fogger.
RTS (Ready To Spray) is a simple to use basic container that has a dilution of oils. The container is setup to attach to a standard garden hose and has an internal regulator. The water stream through the hose creates a siphon and the oil becomes disbursed across the area in which you direct the end of the nozzle. The limitation to this is the ability for the water born liquid to penetrate. The concept is fast and effective but is not practical to use in dense over growth. It is best for applying to large grass surfaces hedges and under decks or around patios.
Fogger units come in two styles which I will go into in more detail. The basic 101 of foggers is to transform the concentration of liquid oils into a vapor. A vapor is capable of penetrating dense areas of vegetation, nooks and crannies and hard to get to areas that a RTS cannot. The two styles are thermal and cold foggers. The biggest difference between the two styles is the level of Micron droplet size that is created. Thermal will create a very small droplet and thus create a highly visible fog for directing the mist to intended areas. A non-thermal fogger or UVL cold fogger will disburse a larger micron vapor that has a faint visibility. In both cases I highly recommend the use of a respirator. The oils may be natural but any vapor can have an affect on our systems and it is best to use precaution.
I have created a guide and video to insect foggers that will be published shortly that will show how both thermal and UVL cold mist work and the advantage and disadvantage to both.
